Lib Dems Demand Rapid Response Unit for Congestion Charging12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 10th Oct 2002 Responding to the Mayor of London’s expected announcement today of the launch date for his congestion charging scheme, Lynne Featherstone, London Assembly Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson, said: "Liberal Democrats remain a critical friend of congestion charging. We have to cut traffic levels if business and public transport are to work efficiently." “It’s vital that from the moment congestion charging starts, Ken Livingstone is ready to respond immediately to problems as they arise. He needs a rapid response unit at Transport for London. "Londoners cannot put up with delays of weeks and months before congestion charging problems are ironed out: Vauxhall Cross multiplied around the edge of central London is just not acceptable."
