Police estates strategy consultation is "deeply flawed" says Dee Doocey

3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th Jul 2008

At a meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) today, Dee Doocey, who leads for the Liberal Democrats on policing in London, raised serious concerns about the way the Met's consultation on the future of police stations had been carried out. She described the consultation as deeply flawed and said, "The information from the consultation is meaningless, and cannot be used to determine the future of local police facilities."

The Met accepted this, and the Co-Ordinating and Policing Committee of the MPA agreed that the entire process surrounding the estate strategy should immediately be put on hold, and reviewed as a matter of urgency as part of the budget process over the summer.

Dee said, "It is essential that this time all communities are fully engaged in this process, both in understanding what is planned, and knowing how to make their voices heard."
