Potential strike action is bad timing for TfL - Pope

2.20.00pm GMT Wed 12th Mar 2008

Commenting on the news that London Underground workers voted to strike over safety and ticket office closures, Geoff Pope, Transport Spokesman for the London Assembly Liberal Democrats said:

"This potential strike clearly demonstrates that everything within London Underground is not going as smoothly as Transport for London would have us believe. With announcements later this week saying that Tube contracts for Metronet work are returning to Transport for London, this could not come at a worse time.

"It is clear that managers need to improve relationships with London Underground staff to ensure that further disruption to passengers does not occur.

"Liberal Democrats believe that ticket offices must stay open and that stations need to be properly staffed. It is important that all Londoners feel safe on public transport, including our Tube staff."
