"TRIPADVISOR POLL HIDES GRIM REALITY OF LONDON PUBLIC TRANSPORT" - POPE

11.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 4th Oct 2007

Responding to a poll by web-based company TripAdvisor, which voted London's public transport network the best in the world, Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesman on the London Assembly, Geoff Pope, said:

"This internet poll is more of a sunny holiday snap than a reflection of what is for many Londoners a daily trip in cattle class. Leisure travel is no fair comparison to packed rush hours marred by constant delays and poor service.

'The only finding that will ring true is the exorbitant fares. Any straw poll of Londoners will tell you they are not getting value for money.

'The Mayor should not use this poll to trumpet the success of London's transport network." ENDS
