Tube strike "pointless" - Pope5.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 3rd Sep 2007 Geoff Pope, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson at the London Assembly today condemned the 72 hour strike planned by maintenance workers, members of the RMT union, as "pointless." "Transport for London has gone as far as they can in providing the re-assurance that the union wants to protect their member's pensions, and safeguard jobs. "Gordon Brown's PPP deal has got us in this mess and it is totally wrong that millions of Londoners will suffer immense disruption going about their business because of a Tube strike. The industrial action is pointless and the union should call it off immediately."
