Geoff Pope on Central Line derailment at Mile End

2.59.27pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 5th Jul 2007

Commenting on the derailment of a Tube train this morning on the Central Line, Geoff Pope Liberal Democrat London Assembly Spokesperson on Transport said:

"Any tube derailment is a major failing and the Mayor as Chair of Transport for London should be asked how this could have happened, and is he satisfied that a watertight preventative strategy is in place? While it is still far too early to lay blame, this incident is a publicity nightmare for Metronet who look after the Central Line, and will serve as another jolt to passengers already shaky confidence in the service that Metronet provides under Gordon Brown's PPP deal"
