DELAY & DITHERING ON CROSSRAIL WILL COST LONDON DEAR

5.29.46pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 12th Jul 2004

Commenting on the Chancellor's announcement that the Transport Minister will announce funding for transport projects 'later this month', Liberal Democrat London Assembly Transport Spokesman, Lynne Featherstone, said:-

"Last year, Labour said they would announce Crossrail when Montague published his report in February. Last month, Labour spun that the Crossrail announcement would be made today. The Chancellor now tells London that the Transport Minister may make announcements about Crossrail 'some time later this month'. More dithering and more delays damage London.

"Endless postponement will never create regeneration in the Thames Gateway. International finance will not stay in the City or Canary Wharf if Crossrail is not built. The future of our capital city is dribbling away down the drain because Labour is incapable of making decisions."
