Tube train entering station

The Mayor must take urgent action to prevent any further accidents on the Tube network, urged the London Assembly Liberal Democrats in response to the two derailments at the weekend.

Ms Featherstone, Lib Dem transport spokesperson said: "It beggars belief that there have been two derailments in less than 48 hours.

"There appears to have been a catastrophic failure of the Tube's maintenance and yet again passengers have faced the nightmare of their train derailing. Enough is enough! The Mayor must take urgent action to make sure these terrible accidents stop."

Ms Featherstone will be chairing an emergency session of the London Assembly transport committee on Thursday: "We will be holding a full inquiry into this incident. We want to know what is going wrong and what the Mayor is doing to prevent these dreadful accidents from happening again."
