Is veil of secrecy to be lifted?12.00.00am GMT Thu 27th Feb 2003
Confidential details of the congestion charging scheme contract may be made public after the London Assembly Liberal Democrats continued their pressure on Mayor Ken Livingstone over the secrecy surrounding Transport for London's contract with Capita. Sally Hamwee, Liberal Democrat and Chair of the London Assembly, has been invited by the Mayor to join him in asking Capita to put into the public arena aspects of the contract. Sally Hamwee said: "I welcome the Mayor's offer of a joint approach to Capita to seek a way of putting information about the TfL/Capita contract into the public domain." "There has been a stream of complaints about the administration of registration and penalty notices sent in error. The public is entitled to know what performance measures Capital must meet to avoid its own renumeration being reduced or the contract being brought to a premature end. "TfL should not have allowed confidentiality to Capita, especially given the controversy surrounding the complex congestion charging scheme and Capita's track record of fiascos."
