Lib Dems welcome new affordable homes in the heart of London

12.00.00am GMT Thu 5th Dec 2002

Sally Hamwee joined ex-Eurythmics' star Dave Stewart to hand over the keys to a new affordable homes development in the heart of London.

Dave is the creative director of The Hospital, a new media venture that has converted an office block in Drury Lane into seven flats as part of a planning agreement to redevelop St Paul's Hospital. Another property in nearby Newton Street that the Hospital is also converting into housing will come on-line in January. The second property, which also has a room for community activities, will make the total number of units 16.

Sally Hamwee attended the event to lend her support to the scheme, which demonstrates the benefit partnerships between local authorities and private businesses can have for the community. The London Assembly encourages the provision of affordable housing in London and in 2001 published the report Key issues for key workers: Affordable housing in London.

The homes will go to people on LB Camden's housing needs list and will be managed by the owners Soho Housing Association
