Black holes in London Buses 'league tables'

12.00.00am GMT Fri 13th Dec 2002

Islington, Camden, Lambeth, Tower Hamlets and Wandsworth are getting a raw deal on the quality of their bus services according to figures researched by the London Assembly Liberal Democrats.

Some services, provided by Transport for London through a range of bus operating companies, provide as bad as a 50% chance of the bus arriving late.

Releasing the figures based on quarterly statistics published by Transport for London, Lynne Featherstone, Lib Dem transport spokesperson, commented:"There are 'black holes' in the bus network. It is disgraceful that some boroughs should have so many poor performers in their area. Liberal Democrats will be campaigning to get these bus services improved."

"Winners in the bus performance 'league tables' include Bromley, Croydon, Sutton and Havering."

"There have certainly been real improvements in many of London's bus services, with a lot of new buses purchased, new routes introduced, and the night bus service very much better," Ms Featherstone added."

"Liberal Democrats want all Londoners to benefit fully from all these improvements."
